This book tells the history of the Great Lakes in the astonishing variety of ships that have sailed them since the first Europeans came to the region 300 years ago. The lakes were the highway and commercial artery of the region until well into the twentieth century, drawing explorers, voyageurs, merchants, travelers, and soldiers into the excitement and danger of travel on the inland seas.
